Adopting the Circular Economy model, the GCC region can save almost $138 billion by 2030, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 150 million tons (“Putting GCC cities in the loop: Sustainable growth in a circular economy”, Strategy &). Recognising the urgent need, importance and potentials of Circular Economy, Leaders of the GCC countries have started their journey towards circularity.
Circular Economy in The Kingdom of Bahrain
Bahrain’s commitment to achieving a clean environment and a more sustainable economy are spearheaded by the programs and initiatives outlined in policies such as the NREAP and its Vision 2030. A ministerial order prohibits the use of single-use plastic bags and the Government is moving toward the development of solar parks and wind energy plants to supplement the Kingdom’s energy needs.

Circular Economy in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia launched the Carbon Circular Economy National Program to draw a comprehensive roadmap, which includes technological localization and advancement through the implementation of the Carbon Circular Economy. The program is the result of joint efforts by different stakeholders that worked on developing and implementing mechanisms that cover all technical, administrative, engineering, and normative aspects in order to achieve the strategic objectives of sustainable social and economic growth, promote integrated climate-change solutions, and ensure global leadership in the field of circular carbon economy.

Circular Economy in United Arab Emirates
United Arab Emirates issued the UAE Circular Economy Policy 2021– 2031. While the UAE is keen for all sectors to adopt circular economy principles, four priority sectors have been identified based on their current role in the national economy and on their potential for stimulating and developing a UAE Circular Economy. These are:
- Sustainable manufacturing
- Green infrastructure
- Sustainable transportation
- Sustainable food production and consumption
